PARENTS

Tapestry

We record observations of children using an on-line system. You will be given a password so that you will be able to access your child’s online learning journey from any computer in the world. This is particularly relevant to our Service families. We encourage you to also upload observations and photographs of your child at home to create a holistic record of your child’s early years. More information on Tapestry will be given to you once your child has settled at Pre-School

Updated EYFS Food Safety Guidelines

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework has recently been updated, with new guidance on food safety and choking prevention effective from September. Please review the summary below and ensure that any packed lunches you provide are in full compliance with these recommendations:

Food Preparation and Safety Guidance for Children Aged 5 and Under
As advised by the Department for Education:

• Remove all pips and stones from fruit.
• Cut small, round foods such as grapes, cherry tomatoes, and strawberries lengthways and into quarters.
• Slice large or hard fruits and vegetables (e.g. apples, carrots) rather than cutting them into chunks.
• Cut sausages into thin strips and remove skins; avoid serving them in chunks.
• Ensure all meat and fish is boneless.
• Whole nuts and seeds must not be given to children under the age of five.
• Serve cheese in strips rather than chunks.
• White bread may form a doughy mass—consider using wholemeal or toasted bread, and cut into strips for younger children.
• Provide only fresh tap water and plain milk to drink.

• The following foods are not permitted for children under five:
o Popcorn
o Marshmallows
o Jelly cubes
o Hard sweets (as they present a significant choking hazard)

We appreciate your support in adhering to these guidelines to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our pupils.
